Becky Duesler Math Tutoring
About
I have tutored math for over 10 years and have been teaching at the high school level for 5 years in Orange County. I have taught all levels of Algebra 1 and AP Statistics. I know what it takes to be successful at the high school and college level, so I want to help students be prepared for the middle to high school, and high school to college transition.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With students, I feel it is essential to build fundamentals before trying to add new skill sets. As a teacher, I find students who don't have solid foundations struggle throughout their high school career. My goal is to end this cycle and have students be confident and capable math students by filling in any learning gaps in their knowledge. I use a variety of instruction strategies to meet the needs of all students.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started tutoring math when I was a junior in high school and continued to do so all through college. I graduated from UCLA in 2010 and decided to pursue getting a teaching credential so I could share my love of math on a larger scale. I have experience tutring and teaching at the middle, high school and college levels, so I know what it takes to be a successful student at those levels.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually charge $50/hour but I am willing to negotiate if multiple sessions are purchased. My ultimate goal is to help your student gain confidence in his or her abilities.
How did you get started teaching?
I tutored through high school and college and couldn't wait to get off of work so I could tutor. I realized the only way I was going to be able to tutor full time was to become a teacher. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I wake up excited to go to work everyday and I enjoy sharing my love of math with all of my students. I like to show them that it's cool to be a nerd :)
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students....honors level, intervention level, special education level. I know that every student has it in them to be a successful math student, sometimes it just takes a different approach to find their strengths and show them how capable they are.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise students to make sure their tutor has experience in their area of need and knows what they need to know at the next level. Tutoring is not only about helping the student now, but also helping them to develop skills that will help them be successful in the future.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I also teach AVID and in AVID we focus on where the point of confusion is. When students are able to identify what they know how to do and where they get stuck, a tutor/teacher will be better able to assist them.
