I am currently a special education teacher with the Tempe Elementary School District. I have a passion for teaching all students and believe every c-ild is capable of success. I have been teaching full time for one school year and I have 4 years of experience working with students in a school setting. I have worked with elementary aged students, middle school students, and high schoolers. I have a credential for elementary education and special education.
I enjoy working with students and especially a population of students who are usually discounted. I believe every child is capable of success, especially when they receive the proper support. One of the best things about working with students with special needs is watching them prove everyone else wrong!
Ms. Nelson was very patient. At first my work was hard, but she made it easy and fun to learn!
When I am working with a new student my first step is to understand their abilities. Knowing what a student is able to do helps to plan future goals and ensure success.
I graduated from Arizona State University with my Bachelors Degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. During that time I interned and student taught in various settings including elementary, middle, and high schools. I am currently a full-time teacher for students with special needs at a middle school. I am credentialed to teach Special Education and Elementary Education.
My mom is a teacher so I had a desire to teach since I was young. When I started at Arizona State University I knew that was the job I was meant to do. Everyone says the first year of teaching is the hardest, but I have had an amazing experience. I can't imagine myself in any other type of job.
I have worked with a variety of students. I tutored kindergarteners at the Boys and Girls Clug. I have worked in a 2nd grade classroom and a 4th grade classroom. I have also worked with high school students as well as middle school students. I am experienced working with students with special needs.
Recently, I was able to attend the City of Tempe YouthFest for 2018. I nominated one of my current students to receive a Courage Award and he was chosen. It was such a good experience to spend with my student, his family, and other educators.
I would tell the student to pick a teacher that is just as excited to learn as they are!
How will you support me as a teacher? What changes will you make if I am struggling?
