About

I provide a customized education for all ages and levels. I currently teach at SMC and have been a Canon educator since 2014. My professional career began in 1990. See my website for examples.

It's great when a student is excited to show off their images! I love to challenge all my students to be more creative through technical knowledge.

Steve is a great teacher! He is patient, insightful and very efficient in making sure you as a student learn and retain what you have learned. His decades of experience are invaluable- he knows ins and outs of the business of photography as well as the techniques and nuances, from studio set up, most efficient work flow using Lightroom and photoshop, to studio and on location lighting, best posing for portrait photography, food photography, including tips on styling and working with restaurants, chefs. He is a wealth of information. In the world where everyone who has a camera is now a pro photographer it’s hard to find true professionals and even harder to find those who can teach it well. I studied studio lighting for portrait and product with him and it propelled my work to a new level. Steve is fantastic and I highly recommended you take a lesson with him. You’ll be glad you did!

    Frequently asked questions

I prefer to have a short phone call to understand their goals and what they wish to learn. Most people have some basic knowledge, so where to begin is essential to no waist time going over material they know.

My career began in 1990. I shoot advertising and editoral. My website will give you the best view of my photo skils. I began teaching college courses in 2010. I teach at Santa Monica College and have taught over 20 different classes. I became a Canon educator in 2014.

Yes. 2 hour blocks of time prefered here in Marina del Rey. $50/session

A old client that started teaching years before me called and said his school needed a photography instructor. It is something I've always wanted to do and easily accepted.

I teach at the college level and for Canon, the student body demographic is about as diverse as I can imagine. 17 to 75 years old, retired, challenged by traditional school systems, ex military.

Read thier profile and look at thier website, that is evidence of thier work. They should have experience teaching and creating beautiful images, look for both.

First, inform the teacher what you already know so time is not wasted. Be specific about what you want to learn or be able to do. ie. I'd like to be able to take great action photos of my son playing soccor.

With that info I can get right to the solution, then inspire you to go beyond.
