About this pro

My name is Ruth Villa, I have been painting for over 12 years. I am a self taught artist, this is my passion. I have been recognized by the Senate of California once and twice by the city of Los Angeles for sharing my talents and beautifying the community. I love sharing my skills with those interested in learning art.

The best part about my job is that I get to see the students pride and joy after learning a new skill, a skill that goes with them for the rest of their lives. Once learned it’s forever with them.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

On our first meet, we will discuss what the student would like to learn. Once we know what the student’s needs are, we will move on to practice and see where the student skills are. We will come up with the perfect plan to continue onto the following lessons.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a self taught artist. I have been painting for over 12 years. I am an expert in oil, acrylic, water and chalk. I have been recognized by the senate of California and twice by the city of LA. Currently I have a studio in Simi Valley.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My fees are based on the time spent with the student. My baseline fee is $50 an hour when working on custom paintings for a client. For private classes a student get 1/2 free.

How did you get started teaching?

I got started teaching at my children’s school. I would teach art in their classroom.

What types of students have you worked with?

I’ve worked with kindergartens to adults.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I am very fond on street art. I have started an arts festival in my community called Simi Valley Chalk Fest in honor of the amazing art that can be enjoyed at the same time is being created.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I would advice they look into their work history, if the teacher creates art regularly is a good sign. If the teacher sells the art they create is a great sign. You want to hire an actively successful artist.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Do you have the skills I need? Is something you want to make sure your teacher has.
