Wabi Sabi Photography
About
I am an artist/photographer. I have been doing photography since high school and have been competing in the LA artworld since 2000. I have exhibited in some of the biggest art fairs in NY and Miami and exhibit regularly in LA galleries. I am a Getty Images and Alamy stock photo contributor and have sold thousands of dollars of stock images to print and online sources throughout the world. I work in both artistic and commercial applications with an emphasis on art. I am known in the LA artworld for my photo montage work which requires extensive knowledge of Photoshop but I also excel in abstract, fine art, landscape and architectural photography.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1st, I want to know what you, the student want to accomplish.
Everyone's path is different and it is important to know what you hope to achieve with your photography. I will gauge your knowledge of the camera, what settings you use to see what improvements can be made as this is the raw material from which all else is made.
2nd is processing. Using your images, on your computer and show you step by step how to improve those images so they can be the best they can be. Photoshop can be intimidating. I will demystify it and make it simple. I will show you easy techniques that I use every day to create spectacular images.
In just 1 or 2 sessions, you will be competent and proficient in the basics of color correction, contrast and more. With just another session or 2, you will learn more advanced techniques to step up to the next level.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a self taught artist. I did have some photo training in high school working with film and darkroom processing. This knowledge is invaluable and translates directly to the digital world as well. I am good with computers and taught myself how to use Photoshop. This was a years long process that is always ongoing.
My experience was hard won simply by doing and competing in a very tough industry.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I come to you. You are working the mouse. I am coaching. I don't show you what I do, I coach you to do what you do.
$25 per hour. In 1 hour, you will know more about your camera if needed and you will be able to process images within 1-2 hours. If you want to progress, you will learn intermediate and advanced techniques in just 1-2 more hours.
How did you get started teaching?
I am self taught using Photoshop. It took years to master. I will sometimes look at tutorials both online and in print to learn more about tools and techniques but I noticed that I never saw anything that takes one from point A to B to C.
Photoshop can be intimidating but not if you have someone there to show you where to start and where to go. Once you know these things, it can be relatively simple.
I started showing some friends in one on one sessions how to do this.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly beginners with varying knowledge of cameras and processing. A lot of people go buy an expensive camera but are afraid to move off of the auto settings. They have Lightroom and know how to make some adjustments but don't always know what they are doing and why.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You don't want a teacher that shows you what they do. You want one that helps you become what you want to be no matter what level that is.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The 1st thing every photographer needs to know, is what do you want to do with your images? Do you just want to make better images for posting online? Do you want to enlarge images and print them? Do you want to be professional in some capacity? How much technology are you comfortable with?
