About
Update: I am now an approved vendor with Inspire Charter Schools!
Trumpet: I teach the respect and love of music and overall brass instrument artistry. I specialize in teaching beginners from 8yrs of age (4th graders) to seniors. I started playing in 4th grade myself and was 1st trumpet 1st chair in middle school and 1st trumpet 3rd chair in high school. I then went on to play in the Purdue All American Marching Band and marched at Big 10 football games along with 80 other trumpet players. I am also a member of Bugles Across America as well as a ceremony bugle player in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. I have played taps several miles off the coast of San Francisco in the fog for burial at sea ceremonies. My teaching style is based on classical music education: pbysics of sound, reading of music, armature development, correct playing position, valve control, horn care and maintenance, and practice routines with scales and range to develop a mature tone and intonnation.
Swimming: Over 60 students learned swimming from me this summer (2019). Instructor certified by Red Cross (WSI) and Swim Lessons University. I have a 45 year history with swimming and started competitive swimming at age five. I was in AAU ( now USA Swimming) through High School years. I have held records at every club including longest standing records at the US Naval Academy Jr. Swim Club. I was Captain of my HS swim team and District Champion is 100 butterfly and participated in the State of Florida meet in four events. I recently finished in top 5% of all swimmers in the open water race from Alcatraz to San Francisco. I am currently a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and am a search & rescue specialist as well as former District PA Officer, Division Commander, and Boat Coxswain. I have also served as a Cubmaster in BSA and was a graduate teaching assistant at UCLA. CPR/AED/First Aid Certified.
Academic Tutor: Graduated 4th in my HS class taking AP Calc, AP Chem and AP English (before those classes had extra weight). Graduated with Honors from Florida Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. Graduate program in Mechanical Enginnering and Material Science. MBA in Project Management. Westinghouse Science Talent Search Top 40 Finalist (Now SSP).
