Hiroshi's Clarinet Lessons
About
Hiroshi Ikeda has pursued his undergraduate studies in Clarinet Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. There, he has studied with Helen Goode-Castro, Michael Grego, and Deborah Carnahan. At the Cole Conservatory, Hiroshi performed with the Wind Symphony, which the group has been featured as one of the showcase ensembles for the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Convention and the New York Band Association Festival at Carnegie Hall. He was also a member of the Symphony Orchestra and was selected as a soloist performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in the first collaborative concert with the University’s Department of Dance.
Hiroshi has spent summers at the Buffet Crampon Academy, Eastern Music Festival, and Round Top Music Festival. There, he has studied with reputable clarinetists such as Stanley Drucker, Dan Gilbert, Eugene Mondie, Ixi Chen, Gregory Raden, Andre Moisan, Jonathan Gunn, Hakan Rosengren, and Yehuda Gilad.
Hiroshi is currently co-principal clarinet for the Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra, principal clarinet for the Huntington Beach Symphony Orchestra, and second clarinet for the California Millennial Choirs & Orchestra. He also serves as a substitute for various regional orchestras in Southern California. Mr. Ikeda teaches clarinet privately in the South Bay & Long Beach areas. His students have successfully auditioned into top groups at their respective school band/orchestra, Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO), and All-Southern Honor Bands (SCSBOA).
On his spare time, Hiroshi plays soccer recreationally, actively participates in community activities with Soka Gakkai International and SoCal Asian Interactive, and checking out local eateries.
