In all honestly, this school has just been a blessing for our family. My kids have been taking piano and voice classes here for over a year and they look forward to their classes every single week. The staff have also been extremely accommodating with our busy schedule, which we really appreciate.

My kids have been taking classes at HAMA for nearly two years, and the ease and passion with which their teacher instructs leaves them so motivated. The office staff is extremely helpful and always so understanding about make ups and scheduling. Really not sure if my kids would be this passionate about music if it werent for this school!

    Frequently asked questions

At the Academy of Music & Arts, we prioritize personalized learning experiences. Our process begins with a phone call with one of our staff members, where we will ask questions to learn about the student's musical goals, preferences, and skill level. Based on our conversation, we carefully match each student with one of our highly-qualified instructor who can tailor lessons to meet your individual needs. The vast majority of our teachers have worked with us for over a decade, and as one of Southern California's most established music school, we even have access to teachers that can deliver top-notch lessons on instruments (and musical genres) that are not commonly found (e.g. marimba, djembe, accordion, etc.). We truly believe in fostering a supportive and encouraging environment, ensuring that each student feels comfortable and motivated to explore the world of music. As such, all students can participate in our regular recitals, whether you are taking lessons at one of the Academies (locations in Hollywood, Altadena, Alhambra, Murrieta, and Menifee), virtually, or at your home!
Our instructors at the Academy of Music are not only accomplished musicians and performers, but also dedicated and highly-credentialed educators. They hold Bachelor's, Master's, and DMA's (Doctorate of Musical Arts) degrees in their areas of expertise, music education, performance, or related fields from the world's most prestigious institutions (e.g. our current faculty features instructors from Juilliard, Colburn, the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Columbia University, and others). Many of our faculty members have extensive performance experience, and all are committed to staying current with the latest teaching methodologies. This ensures that our students receive a well-rounded and comprehensive music education.
The Academy has standard flat-rate monthly tuition at each Academy location, as well as pricing for in-home lessons. Our system is based on lesson time, with tuition rates differing for 30min, 45min, and 60min weekly lessons. Despite the high-caliber of our teachers, we are on a mission to make the arts accessible to our communities, and as such, we construct our tuition rates with our wonderful students and families in mind.
The Academy of Music was founded with a passion for nurturing musical talent and sharing the joy of music with others. Our founder, Dr. Regina Gurgenyan, an accomplished musician and educator herself, recognized the need for a comprehensive music school that goes beyond individual lessons. This vision led to the establishment of the Academy, where students could benefit from a supportive community, performance opportunities, and a curriculum that fosters both technical proficiency and artistic expression.
Our experienced instructors have successfully worked with students of all ages and skill levels. Our youngest students are generally 18 months, while the oldest student was ninety-seven (97)! From beginners taking their first steps in music to advanced students preparing for competitions or auditions, we tailor our approach to meet the unique needs of each individual. Our diverse student body includes aspiring professionals, hobbyists, and those rediscovering their love for music later in life. Additionally, for students interested in audition and exam preparation, our expert faculty members are here to help.
We recently organized yet another spectacular Christmas Recital, showcasing the incredible progress and achievements of our students. It was a heartwarming experience to witness the joy and pride on the faces of both performers and their friends and families. These events not only celebrate our students' hard work but also create a sense of community within the Academy!
We recommend students prioritize instructors who not only possess strong musical skills but also have a proven track record in teaching. Look for educators who understand your goals, have a flexible yet consistent teaching style, and can create a positive and motivating learning environment. Additionally, consider a music school like ours that offers a holistic approach, including performance opportunities, community events, and a supportive network. You will often find that having a support network as part of your musical journey will provide a lot of value, as both our staff, teachers, and your fellow peers will create an environment that will allow you to thrive, and be motivated to progress. These factors apply to both children and adults, and are largely why music schools, rather than private instructors, are still the preferred way of learning music!
Before selecting a teacher, you should reflect on your musical goals, preferred learning style, and the level of commitment you can dedicate to practice. Some key questions to consider include: - What specific musical styles or genres are you interested in? - Are you preparing for performances, exams, or auditions? - How much time can you commit to practice each week? - Do you prefer a structured curriculum or a more flexible approach? - What level of experience do you seek in a music teacher? Tip: if you are looking to make progress while having fun, we recommend choosing a structured teacher with a flexible approach (i.e. utilizing well-recognized methodologies and methods, while leaving room to tailor music lessons to your or your child's needs). Additionally, the experience and expertise of your music teacher can make or break your musical journey, as starting off on the wrong foot and missing key fundamentals will hinder you once you are a few months in. As such, your first teacher is generally the most important, and that is why we pay so much attention to ensuring you start off your musical journey correctly.
