Sarah Thompson, Harpist
About
Teaching students of all ages is one of my passions. I enjoy watching each student expand their abilities with each lesson. During lessons, you will learn good hand/finger technique, music theory and how to read music (if you're not already familiar with it), and harp basics like tuning. Lessons are typically either 30 or 45 minutes in length and can be on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Outside of basic harp instruction books, music repertoire is chosen together. Whether you are interested in learning classical, spiritual, pop/rock, folk, Celtic, or other types of music your heart desires, I would love to help you on your music/harp journey!
As a seasoned and versatile freelance harpist, I have performed and taught throughout the Midwest and west coast for 25 years. I began formal music lessons at the age of 5 on the piano and later transitioned to the harp when she was 12. I went on to earn a Bachelor in Music degree in Harp Performance from Northwestern University, where I studied with Elizabeth Cifani, former principal harpist of the Chicago Lyric Opera.
