Dave Cipriani Music Lessons
About
Hi, my name is Dave Cipriani.
I have come to firmly believe that music is, or can be MEDICINE to heal our soul/mind/body. It is the way to release our pain - and our joy! - and to access deeper parts of ourselves that we may not be able to, or feel comfortable with, accessing in our everyday life. It is a way for us to connect with our hearts - and with other people’s hearts, to find solace, to find comfort, and to find our joy that we may be forgetting to connect with.
It is a way to find wholeness and acceptance for our entire experience — good, bad & ugly, and I believe it can be a great force for change and good in the world. As I have progressed as a musician and a teacher, I have really loved watching my students connect with parts of themselves they had moved away from. It is truly beautiful!
Now as for what I teach from a "technical" point of view, because I love the diversity of what I can teach, and I want you to know about it:
I teach beginner to advanced (pro level) guitar, ukulele, beginner to intermediate piano, bass and vocals.
For guitar, I can teach you how to read music, improvise in ANY style, strum chords, play beautiful classical guitar pieces, even write songs, compositions and lyrics. I work with Piano & voice students as beginners to intermediate, as help with songwriting, learning popular songs, etc.
I’ve worked with students from 6 to 75, all levels, including students that are recording albums themselves. I have helped people find their creative spark to write instrumental pieces or songs (even a 9 year old!), to get past performance anxiety, or even to learn how to just sing in tune and find their voice.
I teach most styles, including a few you probably haven’t heard of: jazz, rock, folk, classical, blues, African, Celtic/Irish, Balkan (Eastern European), and North Indian Classical.
(If there is something you are interested in that’s not on the list, let me know, I can probably help!)
I will work with you (or your child) to find a balance between fundamentals of good technical development and working on music that really will inspire you to practice.
I often use concepts from Indian music in particular to teach melodic and rhythmic ideas that I think they have worked out the best - I always teach Indian rhythm if you want to learn to play Funk for example!
I also teach Indian slide guitar (Mohan Vina), Indian music for western instruments, and basic Indian (raga) vocals.
For the last year, i have done bi-annual Online Recitals, which will continue as I have students in several states and Brazil. The last few have been alot of fun.
