I have taught private trumpet lessons to students of all ages and levels since 1988. Now, I offer lessons and music theory tutoring online! Whether you're a beginner, wanting to advance to the next level, considering music as a career or just playing for pure enjoyment, I have a teaching track for you! I have a Master of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Southern California. My students consistently seat in top chairs in their school ensembles, and those going into the profession have attended USC, UCLA, CSU Long Beach, Boston University, Eastman and other prestigious institutions. Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask students to play whatever materials, in their judgement, best reflect their current ability level. From there, we set goals as mutually agreed upon.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Both my Masters and Bachelors Degrees are in Trumpet Performance. My website lists groups with which I've played.
For over 30 years I have taught privately and have coached music students in public schools. And since 2004, I have taught at the community college level and have conducted the Civic Youth Orchestra Wind Ensemble.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I recommend elementary students take 30 minute weekly lessons. Depending upon the individual, we may agree to increase the time to 45 minutes. Generally, all middle school, high school and adult students take 60 minute weekly lessons.

How did you get started teaching?
As soon as I returned from Boston after receiving my Masters Degree, I began private teaching at a San Diego music store to suppliment my income as a performing musician. Other teaching opportunities followed.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with all levels of players - Some with professional ambitions, some for whom playing the trumpet is purely for pleasure, and others in between. I am comfortable teaching students as young as 9 years on up to retirement age and beyond.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My family and I heard the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Concert Hall back in December of 2019. With Gustavo Dudamel conducting, the orchestra performed Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 2" and Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring". It was among the most memorable concerts I've ever heard!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who is experienced in both performance and teaching, has a track record of excellent students, and who teaches in a way that is collaborative with the student.
