About this pro

I aim to bring my wealth of photographic experience to offer private, enjoyable and exciting photography lessons to those with all levels of expertise in San Francisco, the East Bay and throughout Silicon Valley. One to one tuition is a great way to accelerate your photographic education and can be tailored by you, for you, dependent on your level of expertise and photographic interest. Whether you are a complete beginner and want to learn the fundamentals of your DSLR, or an industry professional who wants to take your photography onto the next level, I hope that both my passion and wealth of photographic knowledge across a variety of different photographic disciplines means that I can bespoke private tuition to best suit your needs.

I have taught thousands of people how to make better photographs as well as running company photography workshops throughout the US and Europe, teaching teams at companies including HP, Google, Manfrotto and Nielsen amongst others. I am thus experienced in coordinating and designing courses for all levels of photographic expertise and interest.

I have extensive photographic experience, having been the official photographer for The Super Bowl, shot Olympics and World Cups, as well as conducting assignments ranging from creating fine-art commemorative pieces from the roof of Buckingham Palace to free-hanging out of a helicopter over New York City.
I have been fortunate enough to photograph well-known figures including Nelson Mandela, Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, Andy Murray, The Dalai Lama and Sir Mick Jagger on commissioned assignments whilst my client list includes Nike, Visa, Marriott and L’Oreal to name a few. I am a global ambassador for Manfrotto, Gitzo and Black Rapid and my fine art work has been displayed in museums, state senates and forms part of exclusive private collections including the "Sir Elton John Photography Collection".
All of this personal experience is brought into each and everyone of my photography lessons to ensure participants have a unique, fun,  memorable and productive experience.

I love teaching people that everyone can take a great photo once they appreciate how to 'see' light properly and understand the fundamentals of digital photography. It's amazing to see that 'wow' moment when people start to really begin to take amazing photographs that they never before thought possible!

Adam was such a great teacher. Super approachable and easy to get along with. I had some basic knowledge about photography, but Adam was able to expand on this and give me some really useful and practical tips for taking better shots. Thanks, Adam! :)

Working with Adam was an absolute delight. He has vastly improved my photography skills as well as hugely improving my knowledge of post production techniques in programs such as Lightroom and Photoshop. Couldn't recommend him more highly!

  • Ann Vander Ende

Easy to work with. Explains lessons well and reviews points that are critical for a particular project.

Adam's knowledge and teaching ability took from from a basic newbie at Lesson 1 to feeing very comfortable with my camera, it's settings, and understanding exposure by Lesson 2. He is a natural teacher and makes learning fun while at the same time challenging me. I can't recommend him highly enough. It's such a pleasure learning from Adam and I look forward to mastering photography from him.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Each private lesson is customized to your level of experience and also equally importantly, to what you enjoy taking photographs of whether that be wildlife, landscapes, portraits, food etc. Further, in each lesson I always aim to blend both the conceptual (getting participants to ’think’ and ’see’ like a photographer) with the technical - how to better understand their cameras and fully understand the full scope of digital photography including post-production.
I like to work with people over the course of weeks/months and sometimes even years by spreading lessons out. This provides the opportunity for clients to practice what has been taught in each lesson through assignments I set. We then review and critique these photographs together at the start of the follow up lesson. I have found this to be a wonderful way to help us grow and learn as photographers.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Over fifteen years experience working as a professional photographer and teaching people of all levels of expertise across the world to take great photos no matter what the genre i.e. wildlife, nature, landscape, portraiture, sport, food, etc.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Yes, I charge $125 an hour with a minimum of two hours for the first lesson.

What types of students have you worked with?

All levels of expertise and all ages.
