Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically we start discussing your intentions and goals with archery so I get a clear understanding of how I can support in making it happen. Then we review your equipment to ensure it is safe to shoot, the arrows and bow are compatible, it fits you properly, and tune any obvious things on the bow itself. Next we go over range rules, safety, and procedures. Then we go into the shooting steps.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received by USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Trainer certification in June 2021, and my bow technician certification by the Frank Pearson School of Archery in June 2022. I was Manager of the Archery Pro Shop and Range at Oak Tree Gun Club in Newhall CA from October 2020 to November 2022, and continue to instruct their archery class once a month.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard lesson pricing is $65 for recurve, and $10 more/add-on for a recurve rental with the lesson. $75 for compound lessons which includes sighting-in for yardages of 10-40. No rentals offered for compound but may have rental arrows and protection gear for compounds if needed.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching when I was working at Oak Tree Gun Club. When I started there, the staff was heavy into compound but weren't fan of recurves. I stepped up to learn all that I could about recurve so I could train and share with others, and promote that aspect of archery as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
My youngest students are 3 years old. And my oldest students are in their 80's. I've found as long as a person can hold a bow up on their own and pull the string back on their own, they can shoot. Parents are to always be present for students younger than 18 years old howerever. Teaching is one of my favorite aspects to shooting and I enjoy the challenge as well as main learning aspect that I receive from teaching is that every student is different. I've figured out many amazing tricks, tools, and algorithms to archery thanks to my students.
