Hi! I'm a former high school art teacher and founder of a teaching studio for transition age youth focused on supporting their creative career path goals. I have 10+ years of art teaching experience and have supported many students in progressing toward their art-making goals. It is one of my greatest joys to work alongside people as they learn to see the world differently, a prerequisite to developing drawing and artistic skills. I use a proven method for drawing proficiency called "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain," and embody a kind, encouraging affect to promote self-confidence and efficacy in the process.

I’m a former student of Bert’s and had such a good experience learning to draw from them. The lessons are well paced, and Bert makes sure to build my confidence while challenging me—a nice balance of easing me into the process while also encouraging me to go beyond what I thought i was capable of. Looking at the before and after of my hand drawing was really gratifying, I could really see the growth!

I know how to draw now! I took drawing lessons with bert a couple of months ago and could tell that they had had a lot of experience teaching drawing to people who didn’t feel confident with their skills. They had a really kind and encouraging teaching style, and exercises that were very thoughtfully paced to guide me step-by-step to developing my skills. I could see the plan from the beginning and felt confident that I’d make improvements—and I did!

Bert is the best! I took drawing lessons with them because I wanted to learn how to draw from life. They used a method that helped me shift my thinking from the left to the right side of my brain, breaking down the way that language can get in the way of simply seeing the way lines and shapes touch. I not only greatly improved my drawing skills, I feel like I’m able to look at the world around me with a new perspective. The experience of learning with bert was fun, in-depth, and fulfilling. I highly recommend.
