Maya Agasarian Flute Studio
About
Hi, everyone and welcome! I am a classical flutist and have been performing and teaching for more than 25 years. My ultimate goal is to help my students (children and adults) find joy and fulfillment in playing flute by helping them acquire a solid foundation in technique and musicality. We do this through developmentally appropriate games, exercises, pieces, duets and improvisation. I provide 45 or 1 hour lessons out of my home in Sherman Oaks. The first lesson is always free.
Some of my work experience includes 11 years at the Tchaikovsky School of Music in Walnut where I taught flute and recorder (this included preparation for the Certificate of Merit program), 5 years at Highland Hall Waldorf School as recorder ensemble teacher, and 15 years at the Valley Waldorf City School where I taught recorder ensemble, singing and choir and mentored other teachers. My students have performed numerous recitals, done community outreach, won competitions and have consistently held principal positions in school ensembles and premier youth ensembles such as the Diamond Youth Symphony Orchestra.
I have a bachelor's degree cum laude in flute performance from Cal State University Northridge where I held principal positions with the CSUN Wind Ensemble and Orchestra. I have worked as a freelance flutist in the LA area since 2000, performing with ensembles such as the Mormon Choir, the LA Wind Band, Song of Angels flute choir and the Vicente Chamber Orchestra, among others. I was also featured soloist at the 2012 Beverly Hills International Festival.
I am fluent in Armenian, Russian and Spanish.
