i understand how children and adults learn differently, so i tailor the method accordingly, I teach all keyboards and coach strings and winds in period performance practice; also, being an organist, i teach how to be a church musician. all of my students told others that they had a good time learning and playing with me. I got my BFA from SUNY at Purchase where i studied with anthony newman and igor kipnis in performance on harpsichord and pipe organ and concertized and held positions in new york and westchester county; concertized on all three coasts, was an instructor at pasadena city college; at all times i had private students, my career spans six decades.
I love to see the joy with which my students learn and share with others.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
depends on their age and reason for wishing to learn music, methods for teaching children and adults differ greatly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BFA, in keyboard performance and viola orchestral studies, graduate studies in analysis, interned as organist and conductor as a college student, taught classroom music at the local college. Played and taught strings and orchestral works while concertising on three coasts. Studies at the Royal School of Church Music, UK.

not at this time; I try to individually evaluate what is appropriate on a peronal basis.
How did you get started teaching?
people in the churches in which i was playing approached me to teach their kids.
What types of students have you worked with?
4 year olds through those in retirement who wish to learn music and have the time to practice.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
i love baroque operas and enjoyed the Handel performances here at the LA Opera.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
i will take a personal vested interest in you learning at the pace you are comfortable with; i am very excited when i am able to work with enthusiastic students and guarantee your experience will be enjoyable as well as instructive.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
do i want to learn to play very well as in performance level, am i willing to devote the time and attention to practicing, do i want to learn as part of a well rounded education, will i commit to the required time and effort, do i just wnt to be able to read music, do i want to learn just to increase my enjoyment of the arts..if student is young, I ask that parents be actively involved..
