For me, teaching is about helping students feel the excitement of possibility; helping them follow through on that first spark of an idea; letting their unique voice take form through painting, drawing, mixed media ...or whatever material speaks to them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It really depends on the student. I begin by getting a sense of what they want to achieve or if they have specific ideas. Then I have them begin creating something (either my idea or theirs). I offer help as needed, but I try to do a lot of observing and assessing where the student is in terms of experience, confidence, and comfort level. I teach every student a little differently.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
MFA, mixed media and painting - Maryland Institute of Art
MA, counseling w/ art therapy emphasis, Bowie State (Maryland)
BFA, photography - Rochester Inst of Technology
