About
I'm a United States Marine Corps Veteran with Expert qualifications in rifle and pistol, and an NRA certification in rifle, pistol, shotgun, home safety, and Refuse to be a Victim. I certify students pursuing their CCW permits thru the company Straightforward Shooting, and offer private or semi-private instruction for students wishing to be introduced to firearms, or polishing existing skills. Parents, I'm happy to introduce children over 7yrs to basic gun safety, and introductory .22LR rifles. Please reach out for further information.
I find this subject to be increasingly important because safety and handling used to be the basics that everyone was taught and understood. Clubs in schools have disappeared and misinformation run rampant, so qualified persons helping a novice blossom with newfound knowledge and skill is a wonderful thing. When a student leaves better able to defend themself, I have a better day, so, I am selfishly getting to help watch capable students leave my lessons.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
An initial package requires an hour devoted to firearms safety and handling. Then depending if a student had their own firearms, or needs to borrow, time is spent at the range beginning initial proficiency. Students always leave feeling more confident than when they start.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I learned to shoot in the Boy Scouts years ago, and Uncle Sam made me much better when I joined the USMC.
I received my credentials from the NRA, and these are the credentials that I use when certifying persons pursuing their CO carry permits.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
It depends upon private, semi-private, and group (size).
I tailor my estimates to each client based upon a phonecall and determining their needs.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been an instructor/trainer in every job I've ever held, and I enjoy watching people progress and improve. Imparting knowledge is a natural talent of mine.
What types of students have you worked with?
All levels of shooters. New shooters are my favorite because they do not have bad habits (sorry to the experienced ones, its true). Accomplished shooters can always use a coach, I know because I use one, too.
Parents: I'm happy to teach youth 7yrs +, in Safety and what to do when you see a gun, and with parental permission/presence, basic rifle shooting with small calibers.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be honest. Self-evaluate, and always rate yourself lower in skill than you may think. We can always bring along a student who shows more proficiency than what is expected, but please know that lacking a skill that may be a requirement means that we may need to start from scratch.
