About this pro

My goal is to help my students capture stunning imagery, both on location and in studio, using natural and/or artificial light. Drawing on my more than two decades of experience in photography, film, production management and marketing. I enable my commercial and editorial clients to transcend their vision, and endeavor to help my students do the same.

I was born in Sri Lanka to Peace Corps parents, and from that beginning I have lived in a number of countries and continue to travel and explore other cultures as often as possible. I am never happier than in some new place, eating food I have never had, surrounded by people whose language I don’t speak, trying to communicate with a smile and a camera.

I studied religion, culture and politics as an undergraduate and in graduate school both in the United States and in the UK, worked at The White House and then as a visual communications consultant for ten years, and found my passion for photography one foggy morning on a mountaintop in Bhutan.

Now, I am lucky enough to be an award-winning, Denver-based photographer working locally and globally, in commercial, assignment, editorial, fashion and stock photography. I strive to consistently produce the highest quality still and motion images for advertising and commercial clients as well as fine art photography collectors. As a private pilot with access to a small plane, I am also available for shoots on location throughout the Rocky Mountain area on very short notice. Or if you just want to do some loops and barrel rolls over a lake in an antique bi-plane, I am your guy!

I am also the owner of photospace, the premier workspace and rental equipment source for professional photography in Colorado. The studio is a perfect place to shoot: 2300 sq ft (1900 sq ft shooting space) centrally located close to downtown in Denver’s Santa Fe Art District. photospace is comfortable, clean, and spacious, with all the latest photographic technology available: cyc wall, green screen, medium format digital capture, video gear and more.

I love seeing students get excited when their images go to the next level. Helping people use the camera to bring their vision to life!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I spend 30 minutes or so just getting to know my student and their photographic goals, and their current knowledge level, so tha5 I can craft our lesson time together specificall6bto help them bring their image ideas to life.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been a working commercial photographer for more than a decade, shooting everything from products to headshots to art portraits to food to lifestyle, fashion and beauty. I've worked directly with sone of the world's highest end camera and equipment manufacturers to present educational materials to everyone from small groups to hundreds of attendees at trade shows. I founded the first digital art gallery in the USA, and also own PHOTOSPACE, the best resource for professional rental photography and videography in Denver, Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region, providing high-end studio space, medium format capture systems, strobe and continuous lighting, grip equipment, video and audio gear and more.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Pricing varies depending on if the lessons are on-location or in a studio, whether the lessons will need additional gear such as lighting, or additional staff and resources such as models and stylists.

How did you get started teaching?

I started and ran the Rocky Mountain Digital Arts Center which taught high end classes to students from around the world, and have taught at Colorado Institute of Art, Denver University, Digital Photo Academy, and private lessons.
