About this pro

I have been working as a part-time photographer for several decades. I did a big wedding business in the 80’s.  I now do head shots and graduations. I taught photography for several years at an arts focused charter school and adults through a phot store.

My goal for my photography is to find beauty in the world and to help others see the world differently.

Doug teaches my son the art of photography in my home. He is always prompt and courteous, and is a great teacher. He is knowledgeable about the art and science of the camera, and is doing a great job sharing that information with my son (9 years old). I would absolutely recommend him.

Mr Fry photographed our wedding a few years ago and we still look all the memories he captured for us to enjoy for many years to come. Thanks Doug!

We missed having Douglas photograph our golf tournament so much that we now fly him to North Carolina every year so we get great shots and get to work with a great guy! Jim

Mr Fry was a great photo teacher. He taught me how to look at the world around me in a different way.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

First I find out the students needs and wants. I do this by asking what the student what they want to do in photography. I begin with the end first. Where do they want to go in the world of photography

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I haver had professional photography training with completeing the course several years ago with The School for Modern Photography. I also had several classes in photography at my college. But my best teacher has been my 40 years of experience in wedding photography, portrait photography, product photography, event photography and fine art photography. I have been making an income from photography for over 40 years.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Teaching a skill to some one requires the teacher to understand teaching just as much as the skill being taught. Just because some one is good at a skill does not mean they are good at teaching it.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What is your ultimate goal?
