About

I have been working as a part-time photographer for several decades. I did a big wedding business in the 80’s. I now do head shots and graduations. I taught photography for several years at an arts focused charter school and adults through a photo store.

My goal for my photography is to find beauty in the world and to help others see the world differently.

My goal is to help others get the results they want from there photos and to look at the world in a different way!

Doug teaches my son the art of photography in my home. He is always prompt and courteous, and is a great teacher. He is knowledgeable about the art and science of the camera, and is doing a great job sharing that information with my son (9 years old). I would absolutely recommend him.

We missed having Douglas photograph our golf tournament so much that we now fly him to North Carolina every year so we get great shots and get to work with a great guy!

Frequently asked questions

First I find out the students needs and wants. I do this by asking what the student what they want to do in photography. I begin with the end first. Where do they want to go in the world of photography

I haver had professional photography training with completeing the course several years ago with The School for Modern Photography. I also had several classes in photography at my college. But my best teacher has been my 40 years of experience in wedding photography, portrait photography, product photography, event photography and fine art photography. I have been making an income from photography for over 40 years.

If the student is within a 20 minute driving distance I charge $25 an hour.

I have been a teacher since I attained my BS degree in Education in the 1970's. I am currently substitute teaching in Colorado and last year received an award for the most outstanding substitute teacher of the year!

I have taught photography to adult customers of a dept store that feachured photo equipment, I have taught middle school and high school photography, I taught adult night school classes and worked with individuals who apprenticed with me on job assignments.

I am a set designer and I photgraph play productions and sell photos to the actors. I also do head shots for actors and one of my former head shot customers is now on Broadway performing as Simba in The Lion King. (Bradly Gibson)

Teaching a skill to some one requires the teacher to understand teaching just as much as the skill being taught. Just because some one is good at a skill does not mean they are good at teaching it.
