I’ve known Katie as both a subject (she’s photographed me twice) and now as a student. I recently got my first DSLR to help take better photographs for my business as I was building my website but also for fun. I decided to sign up for a class at my local junior college which was great, but it didn’t go too deep into the technical aspects and I was feeling a bit lost and confused. With so much information out there on the internet and in books it can be overwhelming trying to learn photography on your own. Having Katie was just the personal lifeline “call a friend” I needed. She is very experienced as a photographer and so intelligent, but I find her easy to talk with and relate to which makes her an excellent teacher. She’s helped walk through several back end processes with me that has helped simplify my work flow so much. And her little tidbits on posing and lighting that she has shared with me are invaluable. I can’t wait to work with her more!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We'll have a quick chat to see what you're looking for and to make sure I can help. Then we'll figure out a game plan to help you reach your goal!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Studied photography formally in college and then have continued my education over the last 20 years. Owned my own portrait photography business for the last 7 years.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$25/half hour

$45/hour

All lessons requiring me to travel to the student will be a minimum $45.

How did you get started teaching?

I've tutored Math (my major in college) for over 15 years so I've developed my skills at explaining information and how to solve problems for many year. This experience translates directly in teaching someone to improve their photography!

What types of students have you worked with?

Everyone from kids to adults - beginners to intermediates.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I got married in April 2018! It was a blast!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Try to get as clear as you can about what you're looking for from the lessons. That will help both you and your teacher be successful!
