Toot Your Own Horn
About
I have been teaching lessons for nearly 25 years and have a proven track record of having the best students in their classes!
Typically, my students are 2-6 grade levels ahead of everyone else.
Although the trumpet is very easy to learn, it's not intuitive if you're trying to pick it up on your own or if you're in a band class where the teacher has to divide their attention among everyone.
Most trumpeters develop every bad habit in the book because of this! I can break these habits and replace them with successful ones that make trumpet fun and easy! I teach everything from theory, reading music, playing by ear, classical, jazz, working up to an audition and more!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is free to see if we're a good fit for each other. Parents are welcome to sit in to see the process. Bad habits are broken right away and good habits established. I start with the basics while doing fun work as well. I approach music from the point of view of both reading music and playing by ear.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Trumpet Performance.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are $25 per half an hour. Lessons are once per week. Practice of at least 20 minutes a day and at least 5 days a week is required. Payment is needed for all lessons in a month at the beginning of each month. Cancellation is required at least 24 hours in advance or you are still charged (unless it is an emergency).
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching during my junior year in college which also helped me put myself through college.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all ages (5-45) and all grades of both genders. I can teach all skills from classical to jazz (including improvisation). I can also teach cornet, flugelhorn and piccolo trumpet.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure to check if the lessons are fun! No one sticks with it long if lessons are boring :)
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are their goals? Is it an audition, a performance, to be first chair or to make a career out of it?
