Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We meet to establish where you are in your knowledge and determine a path for your learning desires.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
40 years of hands-on practical experience with clientele, art directors, editors and my peers.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Based on a $65 hourly rate I recommend 3 hour blocks. My experience suggests this is a optimal amount of time for one session. Additional hours can be purchased at $65 each or larger amounts of time for reduced rates.
How did you get started teaching?
Family photography business. Dad taught and spoke for photography clubs so I thought that was what you did! Seriously, it is what I love to do.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and skill levels. I wish to share all that I have been fortunate to experience in my 40 years in the photography industry.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Honesty and a comfortable feeling between you and a possible mentor. There has to be a mutual trust factor for positive results.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Obviously cost, as this situation is really not just a one time meeting. An in depth training of this kind of art can add up to several hours, dependant upon the topic, of course.
