Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:
I first ask them if they ever had previous musical experience on whatever instrument. Then I would have them play for me so I could see their level. If they are beginners I would instruct them on the proper hand techniques and teach them a scale and perhaps a chord.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:
I would first figure out the direction and style the student wants to pursue. Then I would begin in that particular style with exercises that apply. We would decide if the student wanted to learn standard notation or tablature or both. After doing exercises and perhaps reading studies I would find songs the student likes which night pertain to a technique we are working on. I would then transcribe the song an help the student break it down.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:
Someone who shows up eager to learn and have fun.
