Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to meet with the potential student first. During this initial meeting I like to get to know the student and find out what their goals are. I will also ascertain how far along they are with their own art practices or career. This way we don't have to waste a lesson on a skill that they already have.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been giving art instruction both in group sessions and one on one for the past 8 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$ 40 an hour for one student
How did you get started teaching?
It is a long story, but basically I was in a failing gallery when people started seeking me out for lessons and it just grew from there. At that time more groups of people then one on one.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a large range of students from 7yrs old to 92yrs old. Some wanting to improve their skills, others suffering from depression and in need of something positive in their lives. Some just as an outlet. I have taught groups, single students, and even team building events.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We took over Oil Drum Art when it came to Waterbury. Oil Drum Art wanted money that the city didn't have. We went to all of the small businesses, everybody donated a little something. Food grade plastic factories donated safe drums, another, donated cardboard, another paint...etc
The drums went to the students in the elementary and high schools and came out as works of art. Frombthe schools went to an event At the Howl and Hughes building to celebrate and and give recognition to the students. From there they went out into the city.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Decide what you want to achieve, then find the correct teacher that fits with your goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What medium do I want to work with?
What subject matter do I want work with?
What style? Realism? Abstract? Impressionist....etc
