What is your typical process for working with a new student?
artist:painter and photographer having many books in the Leif Congress, national best sellers. I've done major ad campaigns worldwide, top galleries and agents, listed as a fashion icon, fashion world history. Academically trained since a young boy. Valedictorian of my class at Pratt Institute, who gave me a one man show. Voted best ad of the year.. taught at The Art Barge, the summer program for The Museum of Modern Art.
I do the basics to the most advanced. From planing, to sketch ideas, tho drawing out the canvas, to under painting, to subsequent layers, to final details.
Photographed worldwide for Vogue, GQ, Vanity, Elle Magazine... shot ad campaigns for Levi's, Swatch Watch, Kenneth Cole, photographed Janet Jackson, The Beach Boys,Walter Cronkite, Brigitte Bardot, Jeremy Irons, Isabella Rossellini.....
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
First one man show at six years old,studied traditional paint at the Yelland Gallery in LA in high school and showed at the Disneyland Hotel with that gallery. Lucille Ball saw my work at 15 and asked to meet me. Voted most creative in highs school. Graduated highest in my class as valedictorian and took 36 credits of senior classes as a sophomore, and given a one man show at graduation.
Toured Europe going to all the top museums. The DuPonts gave me a one man show on Providenciales at 23. Accepted by top agents worldwide by 25. National best selling books, Revlin, Estes Lauder, Lancôme, Revlon ads.
opened the Leland Neff Fine Art Gallery receiving top commissions in painting and photography.
How did you get started teaching?
I taught since a young boy being recognized as a child protege. Asked to teach at Pratt Institute, The Art Barge, and private lessons.
