EXPERIENCEOver the past 10 years I have had extensive experience working with children and their families. From January 2006 until May 2007, I taught students grades 3,4 and 5 how to read, write and speak Spanish at an inner city school in Hartford, CT. When I first started working with the students, they spoke very little if any English. By the end of our time together, their language skills had grown substantially. I have also worked with a lot of children, adolescents, and adults who struggle with learning disabilities such as (ADHD, ADD & dyslexia).

I have gained extensive knowledge in the mental health arena though college and graduate courses, past internships and numerous volunteer opportunities. These experiences gave me the chance to work with various multicultural populations.

I have also acted as an ESOL coach and mentor to a number of culturally diverse children, adults and families. I have helped many of my students better adapt to the American culture, accent and language.

Throughout undergrad and graduate school I have learned about children, adolescents and adults who struggle with generalized anxiety disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, substance dependence, and numerous other personality disorders.

Through the clinical program at Johns Hopkins, I have learned how to construct a diagnosis based on DSM criteria. Throughout the past couple years, I have attended numerous workshops, learned many stress-management techniques such as yoga, meditation, relaxation, and self-exploration, which I have found to be profoundly helpful as a way to better the students' concentration in and out of the classroom as well as decrease stress and anxiety.

My hope is that I can help my students learn how to better utilize their own problem-solving skills, tools and techniques learned. My teaching style is tailored towards the individuals learning style and capabilities

Erica is pleasant to work with. She help me a lot, and I improved my pronunciation a lot in a month.

Frequently asked questions

The first step is normally an initial assessment. The Accent Reduction assessment  is a standardized speech assessment that we have been using for the Past 5 years. The evauation that we use is extreamly accurate and allows our students to see all problematic areas of their speech as well as give them baseline for the course.

This is a crucial stage because the teacher and student need to be the right fit and their needs to be a connection for learning to be effective. The assessment also proves to my students that our programs are effective and our teachers are  experienced.
