Hi, I’m Joel Volenec. I’ve been playing bass for over 40 years, with experience on both upright bass and electric bass. I’m an active professional musician performing regularly with multiple bands, and I bring that real-world experience into every lesson.
My goal as a teacher is to help students build solid fundamentals while also learning how to actually play music with other people. We’ll work on timing, tone, technique, groove, listening, and confidence — the things that make a bass player valuable in any musical setting.
I teach beginners, intermediate players, and musicians looking to improve their feel, expand their vocabulary, or make the jump between electric and upright bass. Lessons are relaxed, practical, and built around the student’s goals.
Whether you want to play in a band, prepare for school music programs, improve your technique, or just enjoy learning the instrument, I’ll help you build a strong foundation and become a better, more confident bass player
