About

This is a private Art Studio/gallery of Fine art.

Emphasis is on color and how it works, color mixing, value relationships, drawing, oil painting, acrylic and watercolor and plein air essentials.

I am a professional artist/plein air painter. Traveling around the country to various plein air juried painting events. I have been painting en plein air for 20 years. Before that I painted en plein air in pastel and gouache for another 10 years. Watercolor for about 20 years. I'm an elected artist in a number of art associations. Argosy Gallery in Bar Harbor, ME has represented me for the last 15 years.

I will teach you to think for yourself, and think on your feet, making sure you'll have the skills you need, to do so.

I'll ask you for your list of what you envision for yourself as a painter/artist, and that is what I will use to plan lessons to help you achieve your goals. My one goal is to see you confidently taking the reins and reaching your goals.

Being outside taking in the atmosphere and responding in painting, is an invigorating adventure every outing. I enjoy the challenge of problem solving; thinking through, from subject choice, composition, value, and emotion, to final analysis of the finished painting often times, alla prima. "All at once"

    Frequently asked questions

We will be talking about this in our first meeting and subsequent lessons will be based on this. I want to work with what you want and avoid working against your needs. Are you painting for a fun and interesting pastime? Do you want to show your work? Increase your income through sales, turn professional, work within gallery guidelines.
