About
As a musician I am trained in guitar, saxophone, and piano, with extensive background in music theory, composition, and arranging. My focus as a musician is on improvisation, a valuable and essential skill no matter what kind of music you play, and because of that I'm interested in helping my students play creatively from the very beginning. I've taught everyone from absolute beginning pianists, to guitarists looking to understand music theory, to advancing blues and jazz guitarists.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically I'll meet the students where they're at, whatever their interests may be. First it's important to make students feel accomplished by showing tangible improvement in their subject, then to help them expand their knowledge and ambition beyond what I can teach them in our sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a graduate of Columbia University, I've completed their music program and have formally studied music theory, ear training, history, and composition. I've written for large and small ensembles in classical and jazz contexts, and performed primarily as a guitarist in jazz, blues, rock, classical, Latin, and experimental contexts.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I start at $35/hr, but am flexible.
