About

Hi, My name is Jermaine Kapombe and I graduated from Frostburg State University with my Bachelor in Social Work and I also attended Prince George's Community College in Largo, Maryland where I received my Associate Degree in General Studies. I decided to study social work in Cumberland, Maryland, because I wanted to develop a better understanding on how to help people who need help. I been working with individuals with disability since 2008 at the Charles County Department of Health, where I received my introduction to the population of individuals disability as a Resource Coordinator. Making a difference in people's lives is what I do best. I know everybody needs help at some point in our lives so basically nobody in life can make progress without receiving help from others. My background in organized sports since I was 11 years old also helped me to understand the value of organized sports and the impact it can have in teaching individuals values like: respect, discipline, work ethic, confidence and leadership just to name a few things that can build individual character in people to be better. I played soccer and basketball growing up, but I made the decision to focus on basketball in High School. I was team captain of my high school basketball team. I played college basketball at Prince George's Community College & at Frostburg State University in Cumberland, Maryland, where I was named Preseason All American in college. Working at the Foundation School in Largo, Maryland for 4 years placed me in an environment where I can make a difference in the lives of students from challenging backgrounds. In my 4 years at Foundation School, I helped a lot of students individually as wells as in a group setting to develop their character. I served as Assistant Basketball Coach in the High School Program & I also helped lead the Junior Varsity Basketball Basketball Team to the Championship Game in 2017. I Co-Founded Mentoring Through Physical Education at the Foundation School in Largo, Maryland to empower students with emotional challenges to have the tools necessary to make better decision in the classroom as well as in their personal lives. “Students need support and motivation to perform at their best in the classroom. I been able to use sports to teach students about confidence, work ethic, discipline, respect and leadership to become productive individuals in society.”
