Roland Kahn's Cello Studio
About
Roland Kahn is a Cello, Piano, and Composition Instructor from Chevy Chase, MD who teaches and performs throughout the Washington, D.C. Metro area. Having immersed himself in the art of music since 2006, he recently completed his Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance at the University of Maryland.
Throughout his secondary education, Roland actively participated in competitive performances and earned the position of principal cellist in local orchestras. As an instructor, he specializes in teaching Cello, Piano, and Composition both in private lessons and sectional (group) classes for middle and high school students.
Roland's versatility as a musician extends beyond the classical genre, and he loves having the opportunity to explore and collaborate on pop, jazz, and other musical styles that resonate with his students. His teaching philosophy places utmost importance on fostering an enjoyable and engaging learning environment, while simultaneously instilling strong foundations in technique and practice habits.
For Cello students, Roland teaches all levels and can incorporate both the Suzuki and traditional approaches. He works with students pursuing solo study, or who need help with their ensemble material, and he also helps with audition and college prep. For Piano students, Roland teaches through the Faber Piano Adventures series and strives to set out strong theory and reading principles for his students. His own background in piano was gained through his composition and theory training, as well as continued study at UMD.
Roland aims to inspire his students to share in his enthusiasm about music and learning their instrument. His teaching experience spans students of all ages and abilities, catering to those playing just for their own enjoyment, as well as those seeking advanced musical pursuits in their orchestra, or beyond. Whether students are practicing instrumentals for school, preparing for youth orchestra auditions, or getting ready for recitals and competitions, Roland's lessons encompass a wide range of goals, honing skills and embracing the joys of music.
