How did you get started teaching?
At age 6 I used to invite all the neighborhood kids over for coloring and drawing fun, my passion for maintinaing a creative life never expired after childhood.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and all abilities. My favorite students are those who are willing to realize that art is a practice—to get better one must continue to keep trying to get better through doing the work, daily.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Check in with yourself. Is the practice of art making important enough to you to make significant shifts in your time and life as usual to devote at least 15-20 minutes a day to improve your skills. If not, wait until you do have time, or figure out what you'd rather learn. Make a committment to yourself, either way.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
This equation: Time + Money + Energy
Do I have enough time?
Do I have enough money to keep learning and to buy art supplies?
Do I have a committment of energy to learn?
