Savon has always been a pleasure to work with. He is one of the most capable debate coaches and administrators Ive ever met in my 7 years of debate, and has never steered the team wrong. I have learned so much about debate from Savon, and he has been an important part of why I continued to come back to debate, and why I was able to succeed in debate.

Savon was one of my earliest mentors when I began debating, at nearly 12 years old. As an older team member he was revered for his debate skills, but more importantly, he was valued for his leadership and teaching spirit. He voluntarily took less experienced debaters under his wing, teaching us how to engage in complex and intellectual converse while reminding us to remain confident in our words and our composure. His training allowed me, at 14 years old, to speak confidently about foreign policies, the financial climate and social constructs. Moreover, my experience with Savon had a lasting impact on my growth and career pursuits. I have the ability to articulate my thoughts clearly to others, to think quickly even in a pressuring environment, and be confident in who I am and my value.

I’m incredibly thankful to be involved in debate as its taught me research and public speaking skills, the power of communication, and critical thinking. As a coach, Savon played a large role in fostering my enjoyment of debate. From talking about political philosophy during weekend office hours to giving my partner pep talks before debate rounds, Savon’s love of debate helped me develop mine. I’ve worked with Savon as a fellow coach for the last two years, and in doing so have been able to re-experience his passion for debate and sharing knowledge he’s accumulated with students (he’s the GOAT!)

I enjoyed how enthusiatic and knowledgable the instructors were. They really understood the importance of building a relationship with my son.
