What is your typical process for working with a new student?
--Students will email or phone me about their needs and concerns. I will often ask questions so to help them reach their goals.
--I prefer a new student to be at least 12 years of age, with minimum 6th grade or more, "middle school" education attainment-- thank you.
--For those living 30 miles or more from my home base, or requiring extraordinary "labor" per lesson, or If paying for parking, I assess a small fee per hour to cover costs. If you're far south and west of Leesburg, or in Prince William and Fauquier Counties VIRGINIA; Eastern and Western MARYLAND [Greater Baltimore (City and County), Anne Arundel Co. (Annapolis), Washington Co. (Hagerstown)] or WEST VIRGINIA/PENNSYLVANIA, that fee applies.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over 80 hours in previous academic tutoring (specific info provided by request). Master in Public Administration and Bachelor in Political Science, Cum Laude (overall high GPA's). Worked four seasons at a USA "top-20 rated" Law School, administering final exams, gave short, in-class lecture. What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The relationship should be a two-way street. Make sure a propective tutor is truly dedicated and does not overcharge for provided services. Vice Versa, that the student respects the experiences, time and effort given to the, by their tutor.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Let the tutor know if they are enrolled in middle school, high school, college or as a working adult. If in school, the name of the school attending and current coursework the tutor will be working on. Also, the exact due dates --even to the hour--when a test or assignment must be turned in to a class instructor.
