About
My love and passion for languages began in the 4th grade with my first French class and has not let up. I added German and continued to study and master both languages to the present. I graduated with Honors and two degrees: one in French and one in German. I spent my Junior Year Abroad in Strasbourg, France living with a native French teacher and attended l'Université de Strasbourg. Upon graduation from the University of Rochester, I was the only student to be awarded the Fulbright Scholarship for the University of Cologne exchange. I attended Universität zu Köln for one year post-grad.
In 2002, I became a certified French and German teacher K-12, teaching both languages in two Florida High Schools. During that time, every summer spanning 10 years, I organized trips for my students abroad to German and French-speaking countries. For most of my students, it was a life-changing experience and opened up many doors for them and their futures.
I have maintained my relationships with my native French & German friends and colleagues and continue to colloborate with them in my current teaching, in order to be on the cutting edge of language evolution.
All my lessons are customized for the individual in front of me, be they students or professionals. I work with multiple sets of curriculae to accommodate the needs and individual goals of each of my students. At the same time, I am never "married" to a textbook or a specific curriculum, but rather use a fully integrated approach, with the textbook serving as a springboard.
The sum total of my 22 years experience allows me to adapt to any learning style, explain any concept and break things down so fully with a visual and hands on style, that any student at any level and with any learning style will TOTALLY GET IT! And have fun in the process!
I find it most rewarding to see my students broaden their horizons, experience the world, earn that scholarship, do that Junior Year Abroad, travel, pass that European A1/A2/B1/B2 language certification with high scores, move to a German or French speaking country, and/or get that position overseas. It's very exciting knowing I had a hand in it!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Firstly, I interview them via Zoom to determine their current level, their short term and long term objectives, and how soon they need to reach these objectives. That would dictate if they needed more than one lesson per week. I share with them via screen share examples of the curriculum I feel is best for their level and objectives and ask for their feedback on the chosen curriculum.
Secondly, some students Zoom lessons might not be as effective as face-to-face in person lessons. Having done methods extensively, I explain to the students, as well as demonstrate, how I am able to achieve the same results via Skype as in person, with absolutely no loss of quality or content.
Lastly, I encourage an initial lesson to experience my teaching style, as well as the tools/methods used during the lesson. In this way, they have a hands on experience and can easily determine that I am the right fit for them, prior to making a final decision.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, I have standard pricing.
My discounted hourly rate is $45/hour for a minimum of one hour per week, i.e. 4 one-hour lessons per month.
This represents a $20 savings monthly for pre-scheduling and pre-paying one month of lessons (at least 4 hours).
For fewer than 4 hours/month, the rate is $50/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
In 2001, I was doing part-time work as a substitute teacher in Seminole County, Florida, when I learned of a teaching position being offered at Lake Brantley High School, for someone who was able to teach BOTH French and German.
The rest is history.... :)
