About

My love and passion for languages began in the 4th grade with my first French class and has not let up. I added German and continued to study and master both languages to the present. I graduated with Honors and two degrees: one in French and one in German. I spent my Junior Year Abroad in Strasbourg, France living with a native French teacher and attended l'Université de Strasbourg. Upon graduation from the University of Rochester, I was the only student to be awarded the Fulbright Scholarship for the University of Cologne exchange. I attended Universität zu Köln for one year post-grad.

In 2002, I became a certified French and German teacher K-12, teaching both languages in two Florida High Schools. During that time, every summer spanning 10 years, I organized trips for my students abroad to German and French-speaking countries. For most of my students, it was a life-changing experience and opened up many doors for them and their futures.

I have maintained my relationships with my native French & German friends and colleagues and continue to colloborate with them in my current teaching, in order to be on the cutting edge of language evolution.

All my lessons are customized for the individual in front of me, be they students or professionals. I work with multiple sets of curriculae to accommodate the needs and individual goals of each of my students. At the same time, I am never "married" to a textbook or a specific curriculum, but rather use a fully integrated approach, with the textbook serving as a springboard.

The sum total of my 22 years experience allows me to adapt to any learning style, explain any concept and break things down so fully with a visual and hands on style, that any student at any level and with any learning style will TOTALLY GET IT! And have fun in the process!

I find it most rewarding to see my students broaden their horizons, experience the world, earn that scholarship, do that Junior Year Abroad, travel, pass that European A1/A2/B1/B2 language certification with high scores, move to a German or French speaking country, and/or get that position overseas. It's very exciting knowing I had a hand in it!

Sheree has been a wonderful instructor! Every lessons has new and challenging information and Sheree always makes sure to break down or frame the information so it is clear and concise. Also she has given me several external sources to practice and re enforce the topics I am learning. I highly recommend here to any one taking German or French!

I love my classes! Sheree is most definitely a patient and very organized teacher. As I am 61 and a slower than normal learner, she takes my lessons as my pace. She is friendly, kind and professional. I would recommend her to anyone at any level.

Im currently still learning French with Sheree. It has been an absolute delight so far. She is extremely knowledgeable in the French language and also on how to teach it. Sheree gives insight on certain words/topics/pronunciations that textbooks wouldnt normally spend time on-but which are important. One thing I really appreciate, is all of the different sources of material she provides for the curriculum. This allows for different methods of learning across the board that really helps get the language down quicker. She is extremely well traveled and has much experience with other cultures. Id recommend her to anyone looking to learn a new language!

Sheree is a very thorough and caring instructor. She listens to her students concerns, questions and trouble-areas and finds creative ways to address those challenges. She encourages her students to not only learn the language, but also the culture and history from which the language originates. She is very good about communicating with her students - both stating her expectations and listening to the students expectations - all the while, sharing her vast knowledge of resources which the students may explore on their own.

    Frequently asked questions

Firstly, I interview them via Zoom to determine their current level, their short term and long term objectives, and how soon they need to reach these objectives. That would dictate if they needed more than one lesson per week. I share with them via screen share examples of the curriculum I feel is best for their level and objectives and ask for their feedback on the chosen curriculum.

Secondly, some students Zoom lessons might not be as effective as face-to-face in person lessons. Having done methods extensively, I explain to the students, as well as demonstrate, how I am able to achieve the same results via Skype as in person, with absolutely no loss of quality or content.

Lastly, I encourage an initial lesson to experience my teaching style, as well as the tools/methods used during the lesson. In this way, they have a hands on experience and can easily determine that I am the right fit for them, prior to making a final decision.

    Yes, I have standard pricing.

My discounted hourly rate is $45/hour for a minimum of one hour per week, i.e. 4 one-hour lessons per month.

This represents a $20 savings monthly for pre-scheduling and pre-paying one month of lessons (at least 4 hours).

For fewer than 4 hours/month, the rate is $50/hour.

In 2001, I was doing part-time work as a substitute teacher in Seminole County, Florida, when I learned of a teaching position being offered at Lake Brantley High School, for someone who was able to teach BOTH French and German.

    The rest is history.... :)

I have worked with students from ages 16 and above. These students have had a myriad of learning styles and sometimes learning disabilities. I have been able to successfully teach them French or German accommodating all learning styles. My students have also been international from many different countries, including but not limited to the following: USA, England, Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium, Lithuania, Greece, Italy, China, Bulgaria, Romania, and more.
My advice to a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise is the following: 1) Be clear about your purpose for learning the second language and what your target goal to complete the level you are on. 2) Avoid cookie cutter tutors with a "one size fits all" approach. 3) Be clear if they are not a native speaker, how much time have they spent living and traveling in the country of the target language. 4) If they are a native speaker, be clear that they have the ability to teach it to you where you truly "GET IT". Are they able to break things down sufficiently where it makes sense to you. 5) Schedule at least one hour with the tutor to be able to experience first-hand what (if anything) sets them apart from all other tutors. 6) From this first hour, determine if their personality and teaching style are a good fit.
