Seth Hochman ! Tutor Of All Sciences

Seth and Marla Hochman started Academic Advantage nearly ten years ago with the simple notion that students can improve with the right techniques and a passionate teacher! Unfortunately, many large testing and tutoring centers entered the landscape, and these franchised outfits focused more on signing up students into long-term agreements than on delivering results. At these centers, it is not uncommon to see one instructor working with four to five students at a time, all studying different subjects. The instructors are overwhelmed and the students get almost nothing out of it. Clearly, Seth and Marla knew there was a better way.

At Academic Advantage, we work one-on-one with students, or in small groups of two to three students, upon request. Sessions are typically in-home, or upon request, at an alternate location such as a Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, library, etc. Parents are always surprised to learn that it costs about the same to have one-on-one tutoring as it does to have a student share one teacher with four other students, at one of the large tutoring companies. Most importantly, students learn better because of the individualized attention and because the instructor is able to devote the time to just one student. The instructors are either certified or highly-skilled and, most importantly, enjoy what they do. We believe that passion comes across and makes a tremendous difference, and when teachers are knowledgeable and energized about what they are teaching, students learn!

Before starting Academic Advantage, Seth graduated from the University of Florida with an MBA and spent some time working in investments and mortgages. Since he always liked math he thought he could teach the subject for exams, such as the SAT and ACT, and for subject tutoring like Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, etc. Some students wanted help in other subjects, so he expanded his repertoire to include English, Science, History, etc.

As demand increased more instructors were added and nearly all subjects and tests were taught. Since Seth also had an MCSE and A+ certificate in computers, AA expanded into Web Design and computer services as well.

Academic Advantage covers Broward and Palm Beach counties with almost all subjects and nearly all tests. Computer services include: Web Design, programming, networking, computer repair, system setup, and software instruction. AA has worked with students as young as kindergarten to students in their seventies—taking college courses. AA is also US government approved. At Academic Advantage, “We specialize in results!”
