Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Usually the first half of the lesson is spent on the ground going over homework and briefing for the upcoming flight. After the flight is complete, we debrief. The next step is to prepare for the upcoming lesson and review the tasks that need to be accomplished.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Certified FAA flight instructor and a Certified Instrument flight instructor. I have my commercial licence with a Multi engine rating. I have a Bachelors Degree from the University of Maine focused on experiential education and environmental sciences.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Please call for pricing due to many varied needs of each student.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always enjoyed teaching, I come from a family of teachers and business owners.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of people with varied backgrounds from the young adults preparing to go into the airlines , to airline pilot needing a brush up and wanting to fly general aviation. My current students range in age from 11 years old to 80.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just Soloed a student on his 16 birthday, as he landed, a small gathering of his friends and family were on the ground with signs congratulating him.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Choose an instructor that is passionate about his students, not someone who is using teaching as a stepping stone to their own career.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Getting your pilots license requires a big commitment. You must be willing to do the ground work , study, study study. Consistency of lessons will have a huge impact on your results.
