When working with new students, I ask about their musical goals and what kind of music they like. I then create a curriculumn mixing traditional method books and education techniques with their preferred music to help them grow while accomplishing their musical goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's of Music from the University of Miami in Studio Music and Jazz Trombone Performance and I have been teaching private music lessons since 2015. I have also taught public music clinics in the U.S. and Japan.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard rate is $40 for 30 minutes or $60 for 60 minutes with a $0.50/mile fee for travel to the student's location.
How did you get started teaching?
One of my college professors suggested my name to an interested student and I began to teach them. I have been teaching that same student for 5 years.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from elementary school age through adults and from absolute beginners to advanced high school students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was very proud to help one of my students pass the audition for a prestigious performing arts high school in the area.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking for a teacher, make sure they understand your goals as a student and they have experience in the areas you are interested in.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should consider their musical goals and how much time they have to devote to study.
