About
Dylan Anthony Koester is a conductor, trumpet player, educator, and music designer currently residing in the Miami metro area. He recently completed his in-residence graduate coursework at the University of Colorado where he was a Graduate Part-Time Instructor in the College of Music working with the University of Colorado concert band ensembles and the famous "Golden Buffalo" Marching Band. Dylan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in trumpet performance and psychology from Tulane University where he graduated magna cum laude and with departmental honors in music performance for his honors thesis project in wind conducting, and a master of music education with an emphasis in wind band conducting summa cum laude from the University of Colorado Boulder. He studied trumpet with Stephen Orejudos of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and conducting with Drs. Maxim Samarov, Donald McKinney, Matthew Roeder, and Matthew Dockendorf. Dylan has played trumpet with major pop and jazz acts across the world and has made performance appearances on BBC, ITV London, CBS, and MTV. He regularly conducts school ensembles, university graduate and undergraduate ensembles, and professional musicians. He is also an active marching show designer with expertise in drill writing and music arranging with recent show designs performed by the CU Boulder “Golden Buffalo” Marching Band.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Music is about people. My initial process involves getting to know the student, their interests and apssions, their musical taste, and their larger goals. I gauge their starting point in performance, ear training, and theoretical understanding and develop a curriculum that is catered to both their starting foundations and their musical aspirations.

$40 for 30 minutes, $60 for 60 minutes. 24 hours cancellation prior to lesson with no charge.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching as an undergraduate at Tulane University, primarily as a peer educator serving as the high brass section leader of the Tulane University Marching Band, the trumpet section leader of the concert band, and the principal trumpet of the university orchestra. At the time I began working as a teacher asssistant and tutor at Lusher Charter school in New Orleans. Since then, I have regularly worked in K-12 settings as a teacher and tutor, as a graduate tutor of music and psychology courses in the departments of intercollegiate athletics at Tulane and CU Boulder, and at the university level as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor in the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music.
