About
Hi my name is Rolando Otero. I am currently in career transition after spending 30 plus years as a photojournalist working at some of the country's best newspapers. Half of my career I have managed photographers, photos, and most recently videos.
The first half of my career I spent behind a camera capturing stories of everyday people, celebrities and politicians.
I can help you learn how to take pictures that are more memorable than the oridinary "picture of record".
At it's heart, photography is all about light and capturing that moment that leaves a mark in someone's life. It could be that time that you saw your favorite celebrity or you made that diving catch to get the first down. Or that sunrise when all of a sudden a boat breaks the plane and makes the photo great. You can also capture someone's essence when they are 8 months pregnant where a simple location and light make a portrait for the ages.

First i need to know what kind of pictures interest you. Are you a people photographer, scenic or still life? Then what kind of camera do you have, is it DSLR or a mirrorless or an iphone? Then i can develop a plan to make you get the most out of what you have.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors degree in photojournalism from Long Beach State University in California. I've worked as a photojournalist for newspapers like the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune and the Hartford Courant. I've covered major disasters, Super Bowls and tragedies like the Parkland Massacre.
