About this pro

In 2013, Darlan Lopes, a two-time East Coast Pro Surfing Champion and Viking Surfboards representative, established Viking Surf Camp in Fort Lauderdale Beach. As Viking Surf Camp Coach, Owner and Operator, Darlan has more than 34 years of experience surfing and competing world-wide. He has an inspiring devotion for teaching kids and adults, and his passion for surfing reflects in his skill of coaching younger generations on surf competition strategy.

Darlan started surfing at age 8 in Saquarema, Brazil which is considered the surfing capital of the Brazil, and is the official World Surf League stop for Oi Rio Pro. Surfing is Darlan’s main passion, and his vision with the camp is to teach all the values of surfing to everyone. We encourage you to bring yourself, your family, and your friends to experience a healthy, amazing lifestyle.

We are growing and look forward to sharing our passion and expertise to many locals and visitors.

He is the best! Reliable and flexible with my changing schedule. Always friendly and focused on teaching while also letting my kids surf. His instructions are easy to follow.

Viking Surf Camp taught my daughter to surf in just a few days- and she was five! Over the past three years they have continued to teach her how to surf so well and she does better each time she goes! We absolutely love it!

It was a very personalized experience. Darlan was friendly, encouraging, patient, and so much fun! He made our first experience with surfing fantastic! He even put together a cute video afterwards of our surfing experience. Definitely worth the time and money and we would 100% go back for another lesson next time we are in town!

We took surf lessons while our holidays in Florida. It was a great experience and we had so much fun with Darlan. We learned a lot and would like to take more lessons someday.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

First, we identified in what level the student is, so we can start working with the student. By knowing a little more of the student activities related to sport and fitness we can best work with the student.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I surf for over 35 years in many different breaks around the World, have competed and free surf in many international venues you can be assured that you will have the best instructor to teach you how to surf.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Private lessons $75.00 1 hour (1surfer)

semi-private lesson $100.00 1 hour (2 surfers)

group lessons $180.00 1 1/2  hour (1-4 surfers)

we can create packages accordingly to how many people, hours and number of lessons.

How did you get started teaching?

I started when working at a surf shop, and when I open our surf camp, about 5 years ago, but I have been giving surf lessons for decades. I also coach kids and adults for surfing competition or just to get better on surfing.

What types of students have you worked with?

all types and all ages starting at 4 years old.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

do a little research on the instructor, look for his review and book just one lesson and see for yourself.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

they should ask anything that concerns them related to the ocean, waves and etc.
