Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First and foremost I need to see if the athlete is worth the training and my time. What I mean by this is I’m very reluctant to train and player who isn’t all in and who doesn’t want to be there in the first place. All I want from an athlete in which I’m training is to give me 110% of him/herself. This is usually noticed within the first 5mins of my time with them. I DO NOT chase money. While this does pay some of my bills, I will only work hard for the player is he/she works hard for me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I’ve been training and coaching now for the past 6 years. I have extensive coaching skills and advice that’s suitable for all players of all ages. I’ve worked with some of the better players in this area and I’m currently Coaching with Team Chandler Parsons of SWFL(formerly Florida Future Boys) which had the News-Press Boys Basketball player of the year Javian McCollum from Fort Myers Highschool. The team also had the runner up in Tyrone Baker from Riverdale Highschool.
To add add to this I’m now working at Dunbar Highschool under Coach Timothy Maloney who has tons of experience in Division 1 Basketball as a Head Coach and Assistant for various programs including the Florida Gators. I’m currently surround by individuals who are helping me be great because at the end of the day that is my end goal.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do have a standard price of 35$ per hour. I also have package deals which knocks down the price if you buy the package. Package deals are 1hr and 30mins of work.
How did you get started teaching?
I got probably back when I was 8-9 years old seeing my dad coach his highschool team years ago. That was the spark to the fire.
I never would have imagined I’d be coaching and training like I am today. Ever since the commitment, I’ve been working as hard as I can to get my name heard and my actions noticed.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types of all ages. Better to start them young between 5-6 years of age. I encourage positionless basketball due to the ever change basketball game. So it’s important to have your child learn every facet of the game so when they get older they can develope into a more well rounded player.
I want to encourage parents of young girls to get their daughters into basketball ASAP! I stress this because girls basketball is booming! While I hate to use the word “easy”, it definitely isn’t as difficult to get your daughter a full ride Scholarship to the school of her choice that it would be if you had a son. That’s just the honest truth! I have a sister who grew up hating basketball and preaching ballarina and cheerleading. 2 years later she’s the best basketball player on her middle school team. Which eventually leads into highschool where she goes to 3 straight State Final Fours and 2 Back to Back State Championships at Fort Myers Highschool. She’s gained a D1 scholarship at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. It’s very possible and just because your child doesn’t like the sport now doesn’t mean he/she won’t in the future. Let them be exposed to it and over time let them decided what they may want to do. But if you have a daughter please understand you may have a walking full ride scholarship in your house! Lol
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Do not go for the money hungry trainers that just want to use your kid as a means to pay a bill. Find someone who ho loves to do what they do in the rain, hail, sleet, or snow. Those are the best trainers!
Also please be aware that all trainers do not train the same. I for one focus on the basics and then advance over time. No gimmicks and crazy drills involved. None of it is needed to improve your child’s game. Find someone whose can help your child learn to think the game. Basketball IQ will take you much further than athleticism ever will!
