Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually ask a series of question from students in order to best understand where they want to be in 6 months to 1 year, etc. What is your playing experience? Lessons before? Other instruments played? What playing styles are you interested in learning? What type of music do you want to play? Favorite artists? What goals have you thought of for this week, month, first year of lessons?
After I have a picture of what you want to accomplish, then we can design a lesson plan for you to begin.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I teach guitar, ukulele, electric bass, and music theory. I've been teaching since 1996. I have BM, from FSU and MM, DMA degrees in music, as well as a "College & Community Teaching" certificate from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, NY. I am full time music/guitar faculty at Palmer Trinity School, Miami since 2007.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
FREE initial lesson, and continuing lessons are $40 for 30 minutes $70 for 60 minutes.
How did you get started teaching?
I am from a family of teachers. I love the process of learning and helping others find their path.
What types of students have you worked with?
Ages 11 through adult/senior. Beginners, hobbyists, amateurs, advanced players (yes, we still have more to learn!) ALL levels.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that cares, has experience/knowledge, and one who will answer your questions directly.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
"How much time and days-a-week, am I willing to practice?"
"Can I commit to dedicating 6 to 12 months for myself to improve?"
