    Frequently asked questions

My typical process for working with a new student is to give them several tasks to preform and correct misconceptions during the process.

The education and training I have that related to player development are my 40 years of experience and being a math teacher for 22 years. Being a math teacher requires you to know and learn fundamentals and practice what you’ve learned. I’ve used the same tactics to be successfully as a player development coach.

I got started teaching as a JV BASKETBALL COACH. The varsity basketball coach wanted me to run the plays he had for the varsity team. I advised him that the JV couldn’t run his plays due to lack of the fundamentals of passing, shooting, footwork, etc. and if he allows me to teach them the fundamentals he will have a successful team the following year. He allowed me to teach them the fundamentals and the JV won 75% of their games and they became champions the next season.

I like working with students of the ages 10-14 years of age and has desire, determination, dedication to the sport.

The most recent event I was fond of was a basketball tournament in December at Clay County High School.  Where there were 8 teams in the tournament and on all the teams were players that I had taught fundamentals from the ages of 8-14 years old. When they played against each other I could see the fundamentals being used and two of them came over to me and asked “ am I doing okay? What can I do better? That made me feel good inside.

Most important thing a student should be looking for when hiring a teacher is to make sure the teacher is teaching footwork, correct hand position when shooting and defensive footwork.
The students need to make up in their mind to do workouts everyday. Ie. don’t wait until the day of lessons or practice to workout. To be the best you must workout everyday at least 2-3 hours.
