About

My name is David Webster and I am passionate about teaching art because I believe it transforms people’s lives to be able to create. For the last ten years I tought college level Foundations Art at the Art Institute of Jacksonville where I helped students to develop the fundamental skills needed to launch their careers as artists. The school closed in 2016 and I am currently teaching art at the Duval Charter High School at Baymeadows. The students have made amazing gains in that time and it's exciting to see their transformation into confident artists. I am also substituting at Children't Art Classes in Ponte Vedra and Baymeadows.

I am a professional artist and have been creating world class airbrush murals on vehicles of all kinds since 2016. My work has an emphasis on dynamic movement, vibrant color, and incredible detail. My work is competitive with the best airbrush art in the world and vehicle that I have painted have won awards in the top shows all across the country. My work can be seen at www.davidwebsterart.com and on facebook at airbrush jax.

My specialty is airbrush art but I also teach traditional drawing and painting. I have taught students from the ages of 4 to senior citizens. It is my belief that anyone can draw with right instruction and the desire to spend the time it takes to develop the skill. The key to my success with teaching has been my ability to translate the process of painting and drawing into a teachable system. The students I have taught have seen amazing gains in their abilities and I look forward to working with you.

The most enjoyable thing about teaching is helping students to gain the confidence to explore their creative interests. I enjoy the personal connections created through the

    Frequently asked questions

The first thing that I would do with any student is to assess the work they have done or have them do an assessment drawting or painting so I can see what level they are working at. Once I see where a student's skill levels are at I can very quickly figure out what they will need to do to develop their skills.

There are basic things that students need to understand and be able to do in order to be successful at any artistic medium. Once I know where the student is I can develop a project that will focus on the skills the need to develop.

Typically with drawing that begins with developing ways of looking at and seeing the object correctly. Then they have to begin to sree the tones correctly and identify the tonal shapes. There are basic exercises that I have developed to move students through every aspect of building their  drawing skills.

When it comes to painting one of the most important things students need to understand is identifying tonal shapes and simplifying their  color palette. The key to overal success with painting comes from stair stepping their tones on the palette so that they are applying clearly defined tones in the painting.

I earned a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts with a focus in Oil Painting at the University of South Florida in 1982 and a Masters Degree in Fine Arts with a focus on Oil Painting in 1986. I have taught college level courses at the University of Illinois, Daytona Beach Community College, and the Art Institute of Jacksonville. I developed my airbrush abilities working with some of the best artist in the country from 1978 until now. I still work at developing my abilities and the mediums that I work with on a daily basis.
