Jean is very knowledgeable, warm and friendly. First visit we created a successful pour painting. She is providing the foundation of how to use color and different techniques which is what I am focusing on right now. She explains the why so I can then practice on my own.

The thing I like the most about Jean is that she understood I wanted just to paint and shared tools that would allow me skip through drawing lessons.

Jean was very knowledgeable and patient in teaching her techniques. Can’t wait to come back and learn some more from her.

    Frequently asked questions

A quick text or phone conversation to decide on a convenient lesson day and time. For the first lesson the student and I will use my materials to create a colorful exciting abstract painting so we can get to know each other. In this process I am able to learn a great deal about my student. I use what I learn to create a initial plan for moving forward. This plan will be a work in progress. As the student grows and changes so also does the plan.

I have been an artist since I can remember. It's not what I do but who I am. I began making art with various creative skills my grandmother taught me. In high school I attended an experimental open space school with exceptional teachers. I excelled in every Art, Photography, and English class and participated in very many extracurricular programs including yearbook, newspaper, class government and SGA. I was accepted to attend Maryland Institute College of Art but unfortunately my parents couldn’t afford to send me. Determined to study fine art I enrolled in an out of county community college because many of the teachers there taught at MICA during the day. Unfortunately I could only attend part time because I had to work full time to pay tuition.

I took all of my experience and education to open a small art supply store and gave lessons there.

I was invited to participate in a solo artist champagne receptionat a local mansion twice, did many seasonal art fairs and festivals. Around that same time I served as President of a local historical society and I was excepted be a member of The Baltimore Watercolor Society.

I won Honorable Mention in my first group show with them and was the only artist to sell a painting. The show was held in an historic family owned restaurant and gallery. I instantly fell in love with the restaurant and decided to apply for a server positon. I was hired as a server and worked up to Assistant Manager.

In the mid 90’s I decided to attend classes to study portraiture under the respected Baltimore artist, Ann Schular at Schuler’s Fine Art School.

The years following I started a family and focused on my children but made sure they had access to any and all opportunities to be creative. I took an occasional artist workshop and practiced art when I had free time.

I do not have any set prices. I prefer to work out individual payment arrangements depending on a students goals and objectives along with their level of experience.

The watch one, do one, teach one philosophy.

I have worked with the full spectrum. From an autisic child who was obsessed with drawing ceiling fans, to adults with zero experience but lots of desire, to high school students perfecting their portfolio to apply to Art School, to a few students who say ”I saw this on Pintrest and want you to help my make it myself”

I attended a magical Josh Groban concert. I find any category in the arts inspires me to paint, draw, sew... anything creative.

Tell me what you want to create and I will dig in my tools and resources box and we will make it happen together.

None really. Together we can figure out what they want and make a plan to get them there as long as they are willing to put in the work.
