Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first step is always to determine where they think they are versus where they actually are. As musicians we often over or underestimate our abilities and it starts with that initial view of ourselves.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
A Bachelor of Sciences in Education in Music Education, Instrumental from the University of Alabama
What types of students have you worked with?
Students from middle to high school level of all ages. I've done group and individual lessons for flute, clarinet, trombone, baritone, and snare at the middle school level and high school I've worked with flutes and woodwind ensembles.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Any moment where a concept we've been working long and hard on finally clicks. It's absolutely magical!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who you are comfortable and can learn to trust. Private lessons can be very personal an vulnerable and it's important to feel comfortable enough to be true to yourself and your abilities.
