Classically trained, I teach oil and acrylic painting across Florida Atlantic University, Palm Beach State College, and Armory Art Center. My focus is on adult lessons, from beginner to advanced. While I primarily works with adults, I accept advanced high school students in preparation for college applications. I am able to teach still life, abstraction, alla prima, indirect painting, figurative, and portraiture.
For years I struggled to really grasp the ins and outs of oil painting. I could paint with relative ease using acrylics, but oil was always a mystery. Amber changed that. She guided me through seemingly effortlessly and tailored each lesson to my strengths/weaknesses—from basic underpainting techniques to glazing to composition troubleshooting. It was clear from my first lesson that painting is in her blood. If I didn't have to move to CO for work I'd no doubt still be taking advantage of Amber's lessons. Oh, and her paintings are MAGNIFICENT! Can't recommend enough.
First, I access the students goals in terms of what kind of painting they are interested in learning, and then I create a personalized syllabus that is designed to get each student to their goals. Depending on the experience of the student, students will begin with foundational skills (drawing with paint, color theory, color mixing), and then will move on to more complex subject matter (still life, painting from photos, or figure painting).
