Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually have a casual chat to relax the student, I then ask to see some of their work so I can assess the skills. Next, I like to talk to them about what their goals are in order to make a plan to have a successful outcome. With younger students, I try to focus more on letting things flow in an organic way giving them a variety of mediums and or projects to see which ones they connect with.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 7 years of teaching college students, drawing, sewing, fashion design, Photoshop, and Illustrator programs. I have taught a variety of private studio courses in drawing, painting, furniture decorative painting, sewing, and upcycling garment embellishment using paint, dye and applique.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $35 for online $50 if I have to travel to the student.
How did you get started teaching?
I was a natural teacher from my days in elementary school, I was a helper with the kindergarten students. I was always helping other students in my classes, even in college.
I was mentoring several interns while working as a fashion designer, my students were so impressed they recommended me to the school which led me to teach full time at a private college.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a mix of students from multicultural and economic backgrounds across the country. I primarily work with middle to high school, college and adults.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love the beach and love attending the weekly drum circle at a nearby beach. Of course, I practice safe social distancing.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Today it is all about finding your tribe, that goes for finding a teacher also. Look for someone you connect with on any level whether it be you like their art or their personality! I am very enthusiastic and lively when I teach so you have to like my passionate teaching style.
